My name is Jovel Ramos, I'm 17 years old and I want to be a model. I'm originally from Boston, Massachusetts and as of this summer I'll be moving to Manhattan, New York. In the fall I'll be starting my first semester as a fashion merchandising major at LIM College. I've wanted to model all my life I've just never had the courage or the opportunity, for the majority of my life I've been behind the camera. But now I think I'm at a point where I'm ready to branch out and find castings, send out head shots, and eventually find an agency. I wanna model cause I wanna inspire people and let them know you can do whatever the fuck you want, if that's what makes you happy. I'm a huge minority I'm Hispanic, I'm gay, I'm a male model under 5'8. I wanna be a part of the movement that changes the industry's "norm" for beauty standards for men and woman. People like Winnie Harlow and Shaun Ross are changing the face of fashion and society's idealistic beauty standards, and I wanna be a part of that. I want someone to see what I'm doing as a "petite" male model and be like 'wow there really is something for everyone' and that's exactly why I wanna be a model. I think the hardest part about modeling for me personally is going to be finding an agency who will take a boy under 5'10 serious. I'm barely 5'7 so it's kind of a stretch but so many companies right now are going for a diverse all around look, because of people like Shaun Ross and Winnie Harlow, and I think I have a lot to add to that. My long term goal is to walk in a free for all shapes, sizes, and heights nyfw show or to be signed with a major agency like Wilhelmina. My short term goal for 2015 is to be in ID magazine, off the rails magazine, or model for a New York based store like Vfiles (I'm a huge fan) But in the mean time I'll be moving forward and working my ass off in 2015.
