My name is Angeline Gibson & I am the CEO/ Owner of So Angeline. I grew up in Staten Island. Growing up, I had a deep love for vintage clothing at a very young age. I was always that kid who never shopped at malls wanting to stand out and be the center of attention with a blast from the past. My previous work was costume design for film, image consultancy, and a designer specialist position for Bloomingdales. I loved my previous work but, I knew in my heart I had a void to fill. Even though I loved everything fashion related I needed my vintage Heaven. I decided in May 2013 to launch my vintage boutique in Staten Island. I made it my duty for So Angeline to be an exquisite vintage boutique. Our motto is "you came to So Angeline now let's find a vintage piece that's so you". Every inch of the store was designed from scratch. We have a handmade rock wall, specialty floors, custom racks and so much more. My main focus is to make sure my clients are happy and their wardrobe stands out.
What was your inspiration for opening your vintage boutique?
My burning desire grew stronger everyday. I would spend endless hours looking for the best vintage clothing in NYC. My clothing selection consist of unique bold prints. I was truly inspired by the 60's, 70's & the 80's styles. Today designers are going back in the past to make garments "modern". I implemented my vision through fashion. Every inch of the store was designed from scratch. We have a handmade rock wall, specialty floors, custom racks and so much more. There is no question when you visit So Angeline you will feel like you just entered vintage Heaven.
What are some struggles you faced with your boutique?
When you decide you want your vision to be a reality it can be extremely difficult. It takes preparation, dedication, and extreme focus to make it possible. Some struggles I faced was family and friends questioning, why vintage? They all wanted me to open an European clothing store but that was not my vision. I refuse to follow the crowd. Despite all the stereotypes, I fought through and went with what I love. Vintage clothing will always have a special place in my heart. I am extremely happy than ever before because I am living my dream. Above all, I believe in myself.
